Our Pilates classes at Richmond Hill Health Club are designed to help you build strength and improve flexibility. Located in the heart of Richmond town centre, our health club has been part of the community for over 40 years, offering a space where you can focus on your well-being and develop your practice.

Exercises are performed standing, seated, and lying down, with a focus on alignment and posterior-lateral breathing. Each posture engages different muscle groups, improves flexibility, and strengthens the core, while controlled breathing enhances body awareness and promotes relaxation. For members not based in Richmond, Richmond Hill Health Club is just a 10-minute walk from Richmond Station, with a car park available for members.

What is Pilates?

Named after Joseph Pilates in the 20th Century, pilates is a form of exercise that focuses on the mind and body. As the core principles of pilates have evolved, it has become a favoured low-impact method of exercise. The movements that make up a typical pilates session include standing, seated, and lying-down exercises. There is particular emphasis on alignment and posterior lateral breathing. By combining physical routines with intentional breathing, you stimulate calming and stress-relieving effects. These results are why many are drawn to pilates’ strengthening and mindful results.

Hosted inside 2 well-equipped studios, we invite you to over 40 fun fitness classes a week. Our facilities cover 6,500 square feet, where we offer multiple exercise rooms. Including a free weights area, cardio and resistance rooms and a stretching area. Top off your gym session in the perfect way with a relaxing steam in our Finnish sauna.

Our Pilates class begins with an instructor-led section. Then, when you feel confident, our instructors will take a step back to act as support and allow you to go at your own pace.

    Yes! All memberships cover access to our variety of classes, access to the gym and our weight rooms, as well as the sauna. Access depends on your membership plan; these may be available on specific days and times.

  • Is this class suitable for beginners?

    Absolutely. Pilates is a brilliant form of exercise for all abilities due to its low-impact and mindful properties. This class will initially be performed with the instructor on a timed sequence to create the flow, and then at your own pace under guidance.

  • Do you do other low-impact classes?

    We have various types of yoga, like Vinyasa and Hatha flow. We also have a low-impact class dedicated to gently improving mobility, balance, and strength. All are based in a safe and supportive environment.

  • Is there a class timetable?
